Abstract:

Adolescent period is that the individual's biological, psychological and social changes in period of transition from childhood to adulthood. One person of every five people in the world's population is adolescent and adolescent population exceeds a billion year to year, 60 of every 1000 adolescent become a mother and 17 million babies, who are approximately one tenth of all births in the world, are born from adolescent mothers.It is known that adolescent pregnancies cause variety of short and long term health problems. In many countries of the world, programs are given priority to prevent adolescent pregnancies which are accepted as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. When women become pregnant before they do not complete their physical, mental and social developments, both mother and baby are affected negatively. Therefore, adolescent pregnancies are discussed as serious health problem as both social and individual. In this review, early age marriage and the problem of adolescent pregnancy are investigated in Turkey and World and the importance of nursing care is emphasized.
