Abstract:

The Tripoli Province and Benghazi Governorship were an important part of the Ottoman Africa. As a matter of fact, the two regions have been the most important and the last strategic position to be defended to keep the Mediterranean and North Africa. In the period under consideration, Benghazi is an independent province attached to Istanbul and is an important region with its port, strategic location. After entering the domination of the Ottoman Empire, various administrative and financial reforms were made by the central government and by the local administrations for the development of the region. In the reports presented to the management during this period, attention was drawn to the coastal region between Benghazi and Derne,"Cebel-i Ahdar" which a special place. It stands out with its fertile lands and favourable climate. In particular, it has been emphasized that there are many olive trees in the wild, and it has always emphasized that olive trees will contribute greatly to the economic situation of the region. It was thought that this could be provided by qualified human power and studies were carried out in this direction. Therefore, the geographical and socio-economic structure of the Cebel-i Ahdar region and the reform attempts carried out in the region is an issue that needs to be emphasized
