Bilim ve teknoloji bakımından geri olma halini bir zihniyet meselesi olarak algılamak ve Aydınlanmacı ve Darwinci bir paradigmayla bunun sebebi olarak düşünceyi dondurduğu söylenen dini ve teorik düşünmeye kabiliyetli olmayan ırkları görmek yoluyla Müslüman dünyada din olarak İslamiyet’i, ırk olarak Arapları, Türkleri, Berberileri vd. suçlamak yönündeki en açık ve en üst perdeden söylenen ifadeler, muhtemelen ilk kez 136 yıl önce Sorbonne’da Ernest Renan tarafından verilen bir konferansta kullanılmıştı. Aslında sanayi inkılâbını yapmış Batı karşısında bütün Batı dışı toplumların yaşadıkları eziklik ve yıkım, Batı merkezli bu “bilimsel” tespit ve propagandaların doğru ve haklı olabileceğine dair bir tartışmayı da beraberinde getirmiş ve zamanla meselenin taraftarları ve muarızları oluşmuştur. Diğer bir yönüyle sömürge peşinde koşan emperyalist devletlerin “medenileştirme” propagandasına katkı sağlayan bu söylem ve tespitler karşısında Osmanlı aydınları da bir savunma hattı oluşturup cevap vermeye çalışmışlar ve Batı merkezli ve Aydınlanmacı tarih anlayışına karşı medeniyetin eski Yunan’dan başlayıp modern Avrupa’ya kadar uzanan seyrüseferinde Müslümanların katkılarını ve yerini vurgulamışlardır. Batı merkezli paradigmanın ezici, bunaltıcı ve esir alıcı etkisini Avrupa-İslam merkezli bir dünya tarihi anlayışıyla aşmaya çalışan bu çabalar içinde Renan reddiyeleri hem meselenin merkezini teşkil etmesi hem de üretmiş oldukları bakış açılarıyla dikkate alınması gereken bir literatürdür. Bu makale Renan ve reddiyeleri bağlamında İslam-bilim tartışmalarında ileri sürülen tezleri ve anti-tezleri görmek ve anlamak bakımından küçük de olsa bir katkı sunmak arzusundadır.

In fact, the disruption and destruction of all the non-Western societies in the face of the West, which has made the industrial incrust, has brought to the West a debate that this "scientific" discovery and propaganda can be correct and correct, and with time the issue has formed its supporters and counterparts. In the face of these speeches and findings contributing to the propaganda of the “civilization” of the imperialist states who are pursuing the colony in another way, the Ottoman lights have also tried to create and respond to a line of defense and have emphasized the contribution and place of the Muslims in the journey of the civilization, starting from ancient Greece to modern Europe, against the Western-centric and Illuminating history. In these efforts to overcome the enormous, detrimental and prisoner impact of the Western-centric paradigm with a European-Islam-centric world history concept, the Renan rejection is a literature that must be taken into account both the center of the issue and the points of view they have produced. This article desires to make a contribution, though small in terms of seeing and understanding the theses and anti-theses proposed in the Islamic-scientific discussions in the context of Renan and his denials.
