Abstract:

The West Sahara issue, today known as the last colonial geography of the African continent, has been quietly preserving its place in the world public for over a century. The region, which for two centuries was intended to be annexed by the Spanish, then by the Moroccan government, is still one of the unresolved geopolitical problems of the world. The independence of Western Sahara has been organized for more than 70 years under the leadership of the Polisario Front. Although the United Nations has defined it as a land that cannot control itself, the Sahara Arab Democratic Republic (SADC), which is de facto recognized by dozens of states and a full member of the African Union, is the most important stage of the success of the Polisario Front. The Independence Struggle of the Polisario Front is based on 20. It is a form of struggle that is little found in the example of the century. The developments in the West Sahra, though not exactly known in our country’s agenda, are a matter that should not be neglected in terms of international relations. This study addresses the problem of independence in the West Sahara from a historical point of view and aims to show the efforts of the Polisario Front on the way to establish a national state in political, structural and legal frameworks, in its historical dimensions.
