20. yüzyılın ilk yarısında analitik filozofların epistemolojik ilgilerinin önemli ölçüde bilgi ve algı arasındaki ilişkiye odaklandığını söyleyebiliriz. Russell, Moore, H.H. Price, Ayer ve H. Paul Grice gibi düşünürlerin aralarında olduğu bu filozoflar zümresi, bütün farklılıklarına rağmen duyu-veri teorisi olarak bilinen bir doktrini savunuyorlardı. Genel çerçevesi itibarıyla temsil meselesi olarak isimlendirdiğimiz söz konusu öğretinin felsefi kökleri, Antik Yunan’a kadar götürülebilir ancak modern felsefede bu öğretinin en meşhur referanslarından biri, kuşkusuz İngiliz filozof J. Locke (1632-1704)’tur. Zihnimizin veya algımızın dışındaki nesneler dünyasının bilinebilirliği problemini ele alan Locke’un görüşleri farklı şekillerde anlaşılmış ve yorumlanmıştır ancak bu çalışmada filozofun temsil epistemolojisinin sadece sözcük ve ide ilişkisi boyutu irdelenmeye çalışılacaktır.
In the first half of the 20th century, the epistemological interests of analytical philosophers have largely focused on the relationship between knowledge and perception. These philosophers including thinkers as Russell, Moore, H.H. Price, Ayer, advocated a doctrine known as sensory-data theory, despite all its differences. The philosophical roots of the so-called doctrine, which we call a matter of representation in general terms, can be traced back to Ancient Greece, but in modern philosophy one of the most famous references of this theory is the English philosopher J. Locke (1632-1704). Locke’s views, which address the problem of the awareness of the world of objects outside our minds or perceptions, have been understood and interpreted in many ways but in this paper, it will be examined the philosopher’s representative epistemology in terms of just relationships between words (names) and ideas.
