In this paper, the significant instruments of our lives from the past, the ‘gnomon’s those have been forgotten due to the lack of usage and edged out to become an unnecessary detail are examined. After the chapter about the origins of the gnomons, the astronomic details related to their placement are reviewed. The most shapely models of these gnomons can be seen on the imperial mosques in the Historical Peninsula of Istanbul
