Abstract:

This study aims to reveal the perceptions of nursing students about English as a foreign language through metaphors. In this study, the "event science" design was used among the quality research methods. The universe of research was formed by the students of the nursing department in a faculty. Students in English ...................... similar to. ........................................................” He was asked to complete his phrase.  In the analysis of the metaphors, the "content analysis" was used. 54.5 percent of students said that the level of English was at the "start" level. Students have produced 54 different metaphors about the concept of English as a foreign language. The metaphors produced by students are gathered in seven categories: “make”, “discover”, “complex”, “necessity”, “facilitating”, “development” and “eternity”. The vast majority of nursing students are aware that English is necessary for their professions. However, students are perceived English as difficult and complex. It is recommended to increase the motivation of nursing students to learn a foreign language
