Abstract:

Çanakkale front which is one of the most important fronts in the First World War is also worth studying in educational dimension as well as military and political aspects. The teacher is also one of the most important alive actors of education. At the front and behind it the teachers' actions have direct impact on educational institutions and also have the power to influence other agencies. In this research, conditions of teachers and student teachers involved in Çanakkale front and behind it and effects of the war on educational institutions were discussed through the teacher. Research data was collected through some archival documents and written works on the subject based on official correspondence in the years 1914-1916. These data were evaluated by using descriptive analysis method. Based on the findings of research overall the following conclusion was reached: While volunteer or draftee teachers were battling in the defence of the homeland at the front, behind it many schools remained without teacher and the education was negatively affected by that situation.
