Abstract:

In recent years, the increase in studies that reveal the importance of the sensory field in mathematics teaching has shown the need to take into account the sensory factors in mathematics teaching, along with the cognitive factors. The concept of "value" which contains deeper structures than the sensual dimensions such as attitude and belief has also gained importance in this process. In this context, in our country published primary and secondary school and secondary education mathematics teaching programs (Ministry of National Education [MEB], 2018;a 2018b) for the first time 10 values, -fairness, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism and utility- have been defined and these values have been associated with the relevant achievements. However, there is not enough explanation and clarity about how the values will be placed in the mathematical classes. In this context, the current study has included examples of how values can be transferred through mathematical problems, the values that these examples transfer to students, and the discussions about them. Furthermore, researchers and teaching program makers and practitioners have been given various recommendations in this context for advanced studies.
