Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to study the impact of the 3E, 5E learning circuit and traditional teaching methods on the scientific process skills of teachers candidates. The research was carried out with 74 teachers candidates who studied in the 1st grade of the Science Information Teaching Department of the 19th May University. The study used a semi-experimental method with the pre-test-final test control group, and the General Chemistry Laboratory courses were conducted for 10 weeks with the traditional teaching method in Experiment 1 (N=24) group 3E, Experiment 2 (N=20) group 5E and Control (N=30) group. The data is collected with the Scientific Process Skills Test (BSBT) consisting of 36 already selectively asked questions. BSBT was applied as a preliminary test at the beginning of the research and at the end of the test. At the end of the study, it was found that there was no significant difference between the final BSBT test scores (X2 = 3.073; p > .05) for teachers. As a result, because the teacher candidates did not experiment in the laboratories in their previous school lives, the 10 weeks of laboratory application period is not considered sufficient to develop the skills of the scientific process.
