Abstract:

The wire, which for thousands of years has formed the main areas of use of people and is a textile product, is one of the materials that many artists often use today. The change and transformation of the language of art practices, which are focused on scientific and technological innovations, and the expression area of artists who use the thread in their works has also expanded. The fact that today’s art understanding is in the same parallel is that the artists who use the tape reveal the history of the material and its cultural structure in the context of the original works. This study focuses on the artistic productions of Janet Echelman, Fırat Neziroğlu, Machiko Agano, Sandra de Groot, Chiharu Shiota, Tomas Saraceno, Zeliha Kayahan and Naile Çevik, who use the wire as an alternative material on the linking problem. It is also studied in contemporary art and artists' production through the different meanings it takes to look at contemporary art and the meanings that this object of use creates in the reflection of art.
