Abstract:

The wood pattern printing technique is accepted as one of the first methods used in patterning the fabric surface locally and has been widely used in different geographies and cultures. The oldest findings of textile wood block printing belong to the ancient Egyptian and Indian civilizations. It is widely known that wood block printing has been practiced for centuries as a deep-rooted tradition and is a cultural heritage in India. Traditionally Indian textiles, which came to Europe towards the second half of the 15th century, paved the way for change in Europe's textile design and production dynamics and also provided a strong base for the Industrial Revolution. In the process of mechanization provided by the scientific and technological developments after the Industrial Revolution, the use of plate printing gradually decreased and left its place to the printing technology of the period. Today, textile wood block printing is accepted as a traditional handicraft product that has stood strong through the test of time. Furthermore, the 21st century digital age offers innovative solutions to wood block printing with computer-aided CNC Router technology. The preparation of wood pattern molds requires labor and mastery. With the use of this technology, wood pattern block can be made very quickly and without errors. With CNC industrial mass production, traditional textile wood block printing comes to the forefront again, allowing experimental and creative applications.
