Abstract:

Economics is not independent of values. The three basic subheadings of ethics in ancient Greek philosophy are ethics, economics and politics. It is necessary to think about Islamic economics in terms of ethics and religion, and it is built on certain normative and philosophical values. These values come from a particular worldview or ontological perspective incorporated into the fiction of economic knowledge. Also, different worldviews may not only create philosophical differences. At the same time, different economic approaches have been able to create conceptual, behavioral and policy differences. Human nature is not a value-free concept, regardless of the moral value or belief of the scientists who introduced it. In Homo Islamus, Islam represents the human type based on the ethical codes of moral economy. In this study, homo economicus and homo islamicus conceptualized by classical Western economics literature are compared. Afterwards, it is stated how much homo islamicus has received in real Islamic economic life. It has been tried to scrutinize that the Islamic banking and finance industry, which has shown a spectacular growth in the last fifty years, has not really succeeded in reaching prosperity in Islamic societies.
