Abstract:

Critical thinking appears to us as a feature that should be gained for each individual as it gives us the ability to create solutions to problems in everyday life and in the professional life, the ability to evaluate different perspectives, the ability to distinguish right and wrong. The critical thinking skills that students need to be gained in their educational programs are often unable to be gained for various reasons. Research on this subject has shown that the ability to think critically is not very high in students. One of the reasons for this is the adoption of a memory-based educational system and as a result of the failure to develop the ability to think critically. Research, questioning, analyzing the information an individual obtains, being able to connect between events, evaluate events or subjects in a multilateral way is an indicator of the development of the ability to critical thinking. The individual can reliable results only by using the ability to think critically. To develop the skills of critical thinking, both the faculty members and students need to work. It is important that students present their critical thinking skills in developmental activities, that the faculty members encourage the student in this direction. In general, the faculty of communication in particular, while students studying in the public relations department will have the ability to think critically will bring success in their professional lives. This study aims to measure the critical thinking tendencies of students studying in the Department of Public Relations at the Faculty of Communications. The study found that students have a high critical thinking tendency, which differs according to gender and frequency of reading books. But the difference between classes was only meaningful in the degree of perseverance and patience.
