Tüketimin Evrimi Cinsiyet, Statü ve Tüketim adlı eserin incelemesidir. Bir psikoloji profesörü olan Geoffrey Miller tarafından 2009 yılında kaleme alınan bu eser, 2012 yılında Gülçin Vardar çevirisi ile Türkçe literatüre kazandırılmıştır. Alfa Basım Yayım Dağıtım tarafından basılan bu eser, 414 sayfadan ve 17 bölümden oluşmaktadır. Bölümlerden ilk sekizi tüketim konusunda, kalan dokuzu ise psikoloji konusundadır. Eser tüketim dünyasının, tüketim kapitalizminin, tüketici davranışının hem tarihsel süreç ile hem de psikoloji temelli yorumlanması açısından önem arz etmektedir. İmaj, statü ve gösteriş dünyası altında kalmış bireylerin kapitalist sistem tarafından benliklerine nasıl hükmedildiğine yönelik bir eleştiri niteliği taşımaktadır. Yazar eserinde kapitalist sisteme yönelik sadece eleştiri getirmekle kalmamakta, aynı zamanda psikoloji bilimi odağında çözümler sunmaktadır.
The evolution of consumption is the study of the work named Gender, Status and Consumption. This work was published in 2009 by Geoffrey Miller, a professor of psychology, and was awarded to Turkish literature in 2012 with the translation of Gülçin Vardar. This work, printed by Alfa Press Publishing Distribution, consists of 414 pages and 17 sections. The first eight of the sections are about consumption, the remaining nine are about psychology. The work emphasizes importance in terms of the interpretation of the consumer world, the consumer capitalism, the consumer behavior, both by the historical process and by the psychology. The image, the status, and the show world have a character of criticism of how individuals are governed by their self by the capitalist system. In his work, he not only brings criticism to the capitalist system, but also offers solutions focused on the science of psychology.
