During the Cold War, divided Germany became a major front between the two blocks, and, despite the restrictive conditions of its sovereignty after World War II, during this period, it carried out important intelligence activities on behalf of its own and its Western allies. Germany’s intelligence activities have not been limited only to the back of the Berlin Wall, but have spread to a wide geography in the world, including the Middle East. The German Foreign Intelligence Service (BND) has also participated in increasing intelligence activities in the Middle East region, which became an important fighting area in the Eastern-West conflict during the Cold War. This study, unlike Germany, which had severe restrictions on its sovereignty and foreign policy during the Cold War, claims that the BND plays an effective and important role in the Middle East.
