Abstract:

Considered as one of the founding figures of the discipline of sociology, Claude-Henri de Saint-Simon, during his academic life, developed important ideas about social change. He tried to analyze the social evolution by comparing the military social structure and the industrial social structure. Relating the transformation and development of a society to its level and process of industrialization, Saint-Simon also included, in his sociological analysis, the role of the army which is considered, in his ideas, as one of the most influential institution in the social order. The sociological analysis and research of Saint-Simon continued to be influential with the foundation of the School called Saint-Simonism. The thinkers and statesmen who are called as Saint-Simonist played an important role in the existence and extension of this School for a long time. In this study, in the light of the literature review, especially within the scope of the findings observed in primary sources, the ideas of Saint-Simon will be studied within the frame of the role and importance he introduced with regard to the army and industry. Then, after defining war strategies developed by Saint-Simonists, the impacts of these strategies on the social order and social change will be analyzed and discussed. It is thought that on the one hand, the study will contribute to the field of social change, on the other hand, it will help those interested in obtaining more detailed knowledge about the historical characteristics of French Sociological School.
