Jesus ofNazareth, the main building-stone of today’s Christianity as a figure of history was a Galilean Jew who lived B.C.4- A.D.30. Contrary to the Qur’anic claim that he was not died on the cross, according to the main sources of Christianity and its Nicean creed Jesus was a sacrifice who was crucified as an innocent man for the sake of the sin of all mankind. In this article as a Muslim researcher we tried to answer “what happened to Jesus in reality?” within the context of Christian thought by analysing deeply the Gospel narratives from the historical perspective. While doing this, first of all, we tried to determine the questions which have led us to write this article. Secondly, we discussed the main events, led to the crucifixion of Jesus. Lastly, we evaluated the Gospel narratives concerning arrest, trieal, crucifixion of Jesus. While doing all these, we did not refer to any verses of the Qur’an and the Islamic teaching concerning the death of Jesus. Because our main was to analyse and evaluate the Gospel narratives in the light of moder historical scholarship. In the end of our research we have concluded that Jesus of Nazareth was not a sacrifice who was crucified as an innocent man as it is argued by the four canoonical Gospels and the traditional Christian thought which based on them. Contrary, he was executed as an political ciriminal by both the governor of occupied Roman powers, Pontus Pilate, and the high priest Caiphas and his Council.
