Abstract:

It is noteworthy that Ayla Kutlu frequently includes mythic references in her novels. In the study, we wrote on the symbolism of horizontal and vertical dimensions in accordance with Rene Guenon's definition, -We also argued that Kutlu uses water, earth, woman, city and tree as horizontal symbols. These symbols that Kutlu places in the fiction of the novel overlap with the characteristics of femininity that give birth, nurture grow, and ensure the continuation of life. From this point of view, we can associate the artist's intensive use of horizontal symbols in the novel in question with the desire for the continuation of life in the world. This also means to move away from chaos and give order to the world. The subject of this study is to identify and explain the vertical symbols representing masculine elements in Asi... Asi. In the interpretation of the symbols, mythical references will be utilised from time to time. In addition to this, we think that the vertical dimension can be related to the relationship of self. Asi... Interpreting the vertical symbols in Asi will reveal the stages that human beings go through in the process of self-construction in a universal sense.
