Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the basic democratic values of sixth-class students in terms of various variables. To this goal in the 2016-2017 educational year, the survey application was carried out with 435 sixth-class students from 15 different schools from the Seyhan, Yereğir, Çukurova and Sarıçam districts in Adana. The research has used the "Basic Democratic Values Scale" developed by Adjustable and Engin (2014) and the "Socio-Economic Level Scale" developed by Bacanlı (1997) and the personal information form developed by the researcher. In the analysis of the data obtained in the study, independent of the visual statistical techniques, sampling t-test and one-way variance analysis values were used. The data is SPSS 22. The program is used in a computer environment. The research finds that students generally receive higher scores than the scale of basic democratic values. The average of the total points that students receive from the Basic Democratic Values Scale is (=4,070). However, the highest score was given by the degree of self-confidence (=4,180) and the lowest score was given by the degree of fairness (=3,965). There was no significant difference between the scores that students in 4 lower dimensions received and the gender variable. The scores of girls are higher than the scores of boys. Except for the size of cooperation and fairness, all other dimensions have seen significant differences according to different variables.
