Orhan Pamuk’un kurgusu, biçemi ve anlatı yerlemleriyle postmodern roman olarak değerlendirilen Kafamda Bir Tuhaflık isimli yapıtı, Mevlut Karataş isimli başkişinin memleketi Beyşehir’den İstanbul’a göç ettiği yaşamının 43 yıllık öyküsüdür. 1969 yılından 2012 yılına kadarki bu süreç dönemin toplumsal, siyasal ve ekonomik olaylarına tanıklık eder. Mevlut İstanbul’da yoğurtçuluk, dondurmacılık, pilavcılık, otopark bekçiliği gibi pek çok farklı işte çalışsa da esas olarak kendisini boza satıcısı olarak tanımlar. Romanda pek çok kişinin gözünden anlatılan İstanbul, onun sokakları ve yaşantısı Mevlut’un kafasında farklı anlamlarla değer bulur. Mevlut’un kendisi dışında kimsenin bilmediği ya da daha doğru bir anlatımla, kimseyle paylaş(a)madığı kafasındaki tuhaflığın tek tanığıdır bu kent. Mevlut’un kafasındaki tuhaflık aşk, mutluluk ve seçimler üzerine düşüncelerden kaynaklıdır. Kafasındaki tuhaflığı kentin siyasi, ekonomik, toplumsal olay ve durumlarının sonucu değişimiyle sorgulayan Mevlut tüm yaşamı boyunca bunu gözlemleriyle ilişkilendirir. Kahramanın iş, eğitim ve insan ilişkileriyle başlayan ilk çatışmaları evliliğiyle yön değiştirir. Mevlut’un bir kandırmaca sonucu seçtiği kadınla değil, onun kız kardeşiyle evliliğinin beraberinde getirdiği çatışma iç dünyasında bir sorgulamaya dönüşür. Tüm yaşamı boyunca kent, yazgısı ve kafasındaki tuhaflıklarla baş başa kalır. İstanbul’da bir yandan yaşam savaşımı verirken, diğer yandan bu kentte tutunmaya çalışan Mevlut için daha esenlikli bir yaşama kavuşmak arzusuyla göç ettiği İstanbul yalnızlık ve yabancılaşmanın adı olur. Romanın sonunda kendisine gerçek aşkının ilk eşi Rayiha olduğunu itiraf eden Mevlut kafasında seçim, niyet, mutluluk ve yaşama dair tuhaflıklarla kentin sokaklarında yarım kalan yolculuğuna devam edecektir.
Orhan Pamuk's fiction, shape and narrative landscapes are considered as postmodern novel, A Strange in My Head is the 43-year story of his life he migrated from Beyşehir to Istanbul, the homeland of Mevlut Karataş. This process from 1969 to 2012 witnesses the social, political and economic events of the period. If Mevlut works in many different jobs in Istanbul, such as yogurt, ice cream, rice, parking guard, he mainly defines himself as a dealer. Istanbul, which is described by the eyes of many people in the novel, finds its streets and life in Mevlut's minds valuable in different meanings. This city is the only witness to the curiosity in its head that no one knows, or with a more accurate narrative, not to share with anyone. The strange thing in Mevlut's head is derived from thoughts about love, happiness and choices. The strangeness in his mind is questioned by the change of the result of the political, economic, social events and the situation of the city, and Mevlut connects it with his observations throughout his lifetime. The first conflicts of the hero, starting with business, education and human relationships, change the direction with marriage. The conflict that Mevlut has brought to his marriage, not with the woman he has chosen as a result of a fraud, but with his sister, becomes a question in the inner world. The whole life of the city, it remains alone with the strange things in its mind. Istanbul, on the one hand, gives life war, on the other hand, it is the name of the loneliness and foreignization in Istanbul, where it migrates with the desire to get a more prosperous life for Mevlut trying to hold in this city. At the end of the novel, Mevlut, who acknowledges that he is the first wife of true love, Rayiha, will continue his half-long journey in the streets of the city with the strangers of choice, intention, happiness and life in his head.
