Abstract:

Before the industrial revolution, building materials could be used in structures in a natural and simple state. After the industrial revolution, in the process of manufacturing of construction materials in the industry, chemicals used in the factory, lifts and vernis are due to the processing of the material in the structure of components that are harmful to the health of the user, such as flying organic compounds, formaldehyde and formaldehyde. With the use of building materials containing these harmful components in structures, the interior air quality is deteriorated and it creates a risk for human health. However, diseases associated with the building, such as the patient building syndrome, occur in users and cause a decrease in work efficiency. In this context, the characteristics of the building materials and the choice according to these characteristics are important due to the effects on the air quality of the interior. This study aims to conduct a research on the impact of building materials on the interior air quality and the role of building materials in the interior air quality is discussed in order to ensure user comfort in the structures. In this article, according to the types of building materials, the positive and negative effects on the quality of the air in the interior are determined. According to the type of toxic substances within the materials, emissions and smell release, the role of the physical, chemical and biological properties of the building products on the interior air has been revealed.
