Abstract:

The article discussed the question of which of the realist and romantic flows of Omer Seyfettin is closer to. For this first, a brief information was given about the Romanticism and Realism flows in European literature; then the stories of Omer Seyfettin were studied from the aspects of the relationship with the writer's work, the plot of events, the characterization and the impression of reality. 60 of the 130 little stories of the author are told by the first person's mouth, 68 by the third person's mouth. In the first person's stories, there are great similarities between the narrative and the writer himself. In the stories of the third person from the mouth, the "looking of the writer who knows everything" was used. In this writer-songwriter feels strong with his comments and explanations. The stories of Omer Seyfetin are case stories; that is, the events are often worn and carry integrity. It contains surprising and unexpected developments and ends unexpectedly. There is no consideration of reasoning and rationalization. The people told in the stories are either exaggerated and ridiculously depicted or extraordinaryly praised. These are not ordinary people. In some stories, Omer Seyfett consciously destroys the impression of reality or misleading it. It creates the impression that the story is invented by itself. For all these reasons, the writer is much closer to the basic characteristics of the Romantic stream than the realism stream. In other words, though he was generally realistic in terms of speaking about the realities of his time in his stories, he adopted more Romantic stories and techniques.
