Abstract:

The aim of this research is to determine the effects of biomimicry, which has an important role in gaining problem-solving skills by modelling the nature, in the scope of Technology and Design course, on students. One of the qualitative research methods, action research design, was used in the study. The study was conducted with 19 students (12 girls and 7 boys) at 8th grade in a primary school located in a village in Sur district of Diyarbakır province, in 2020-2021 academic year. Research data are obtained from unstructured observations, semi-structured interviews (focus group interview), researcher diaries and students' design studies. Descriptive analysis was used for the analysis of data. According to the findings of the research; It was concluded that in the Technology and Design course, students developed knowledge, awareness, and understanding that it would be beneficial for people to take the systems developed by nature as an example in solving problems with the subject of biomimicry. In addition, within the framework of the subject of biomimicry, students' interest and curiosity about the models of nature increased, and they started to look more consciously towards the environment they live in. In addition, students developed awareness that biomimicry contributes greatly to technology, making our lives easier and solving our difficulties; It has been concluded that with the subject of biomimicry, their sensitivity to nature has increased, and they have started to become conscious about protecting nature and developing recycling ideas.
