Bu araştırmanın amacı Cumhuriyet öncesi dönem gençliğinin eğitimi üzerine dile getirilen düşüncelerin genel bir değerlendirilmesini yapmaktır. Bu amaç çerçevesi içerisinde gençlik ve eğitim ile ilgili Osmanlıca metinler taranarak günümüz Türkçesine çevrilmiştir. Araştırmada tarama ve betimsel analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonunda gençlerin eğitiminde okul, öğretmen, toplum ve resmi makamların gençlerin seciye, karakter ve ahlaki değer gelişimindeki görev ve sorumlulukları üzerinde durulduğu görülmüştür. Bunun yanı sıra bizim okulların gençleri sadece memur zihniyetinde yetiştirdiğini ancak yabancı ülkelerdeki okulların ise gençleri memur zihniyetinden ziyade bir iş ve meslek sahibi yaptıklarını böylelikle girişimcilik ruhunu geliştirdikleri sonucuna o dönemde bile ulaştıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Günümüz gençliğini yakından ilgilendiren diğer önemli bir sonuç ise sınavların (imtihanlar) gençlerin sağlıklarını bozan büyük bir felaket olarak görülmesi ve imtihanların o dönemde olduğu gibi bugünkü şekilleriyle de bize gençlerin zekâları ve kabiliyetleri hakkında bir fikir veremiyor ve veremez olduğu şeklinde bilgilere ulaşılmıştır.
The purpose of this research is to make a general evaluation of the thoughts expressed on the young people before the Republic. Within this framework, Ottoman texts related to youth and education were scanned and turned into modern Turkish. Descriptive analysis method was used in the study.At the end of the research, it was seen that the education, the teachers, the society and the official authorities in the education of young people focused on the duties and responsibilities of young people in the development of character and moral values.In addition, while our schools educate young people only in civil servant mentality, but the schools in foreign countries have achieved a job and profession rather than a civil servant mentality, so it has been found that the entrepreneurship spirit has developed even at that time. Another important result closely related to today's youth is that examinations are seen as a great disaster disturbing the health of the young people and that examinations can not give us an idea about the intelligence and abilities of the young people as in the Pre-Republic period.
