This article examines the translation corpus of prolific Juan G[onzález-Blanco]. de Luaces (1942-1968), providing a biographical perspective that sheds light on some aspects of his professional career as a translator. Firstly, there is an analysis of the languages in translation and the intermediary languages which Luaces used, the chronology of the publications and the publishing houses he collaborated with. Furthermore, the impact of censorship in his versions has been studied, both as self-censorship and as institutional censorship. To do so, the 134 censorship files of literary texts originally in English translated by Luaces, which are hosted in the Archivo General de la Administración (AGA), have been studied. The analysis of the censorship exercised on this extensive collection of translations has revealed some instances of alleged self-censorship and a low impact of institutional censorship – in both cases with particular emphasis on moral issues – and some arbitrariness in the censorship practice.
