Abstract:

Effects of AEROBIC-STEP and PILATES Exercises on Power, Essentiality, ANAEROBIC Power, Balance and Body Composition
2008

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of aerobic-step and pilates exercises on strength, flexibility, anaerobic strength, balance and body composition. A total of 30 women who worked at the ODTÜ participated in the study as volunteers. Two groups were formed from students who registered in the aerobic-step and pilates programs with their own choices, such as aerobic-step (n:15, 39.26 ± 3.19 years old) and pilates (n:15, 38.13 ± 2.84 years old). In the study, participants participated in 8 weeks, 3 days a week, 60 minutes of aerobic-step and pilates programs. At the beginning of the training program and at the end of the 8 weeks, the participants received the height, weight, body fat percentage, back/knee ratio, leg strength, flexibility, anaerobic strength and dynamic balance scores. At the end of the study, statistically significant differences in physical and physiological parameters were detected in both forms of training. The aerobic-step study has shown a significant decrease in body weight and body fat percentage (p<0.05) more than the pilates, while the pilates study has shown a significant increase in balance and flexibility values (p<0.05).

The Effects Of Aerobic-step and Pilates Exercise On Strength, Flexibility, Anaerobic Power, Balance and Body Composition

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of aerobic-step and pilates programs on strength, flexibility, anaerobic power, balance and body composition. 30 female people who work at METU have participated in the research voluntarily. They have chosen to participate in weather aerobic-step or plates by their own will. Same number (n:15) of people has been participated for the each group. To be able to get information related to the participants' physical, physiological and anthropometric characteristics, anthropometric and performance tests were applied two times before and after the 8 week training. Their body weights, heights, percentages of body fatness, waist/hip ratios, leg strengths, flexibilities, anaerobic powers, dynamic balances, were measured. In conclusion, there were significant differences in physical and physiological parameters. It has been approved that, aerobic-step would be more effect on body weight and fat percent (p<0.05); pilates programme provided the most effect on balance and flexibility parameters (p<0.05).
