Abstract:

Manuscripts are vital elements in the context of reflecting the accumulation of Islamic Civilization. There is a rich literature on manuscripts, each of which is of a unique nature. Among the manuscripts, books on the science of rhetoric have an important place. Ziyabey Library has many valuable manuscripts. The study, which is limited to 33 manuscripts on rhetoric, deals with the issue of how much it reflects the classical rhetoric literature by identifying and defining the manuscripts. It is important that the manuscripts, which are the memory of a civilization, are brought to light in terms of drawing the attention of researchers and conducive to detailed studies. With the study, it is aimed to contribute to the studies on ancient language accumulation by presenting the dimension of representation of the literature, as well as giving healthy information about the rhetoric manuscripts that are waiting on the library shelves. While the subject was being handled, information on manuscripts related to rhetoric was determined through the catalogue. The manuscripts were classified according to the text types. In addition to the summary information about the author and the books, information such as the physical elements of the manuscript, the type of writing, the copyist, the date of copying were also determined. The digital images were analyzed and the information was provided. When necessary, the information was confirmed by referring to the original copies. A diagram was prepared showing the relationships between ancient rhetoric works. Evaluations were made on these data.
