Abstract:

Pre-graduate programs in health institutions operate to train professional human resources for middle and lower level administrative positions in health institutions. This research is aimed at exploring the variety of courses included in the current curriculum of health institutions that are providing education at the pre-graduate level in Turkey, and to reveal their competencies in terms of the courses they receive from these programmes. Research is important for health institutions to be a guide for the programming development work in the business programmes and to provide recommendations on human resources planning in health. The research took advantage of secondary data, in this context the YÖK pre-liquid atlas and the Bologna information packages of the universities were used. In the framework of the research, 48 universities, including 34 state, 14 foundations, which have the Health Institutions Business Administration program and are providing daily education, have been identified. The diversity of courses included in the curriculum of health institutions management programs of 36 universities, including 26 state and 10 foundations, which were taken from the 12 universities not accessible to the required data. The study found that the number of courses in the Health Institutions Business Administration programs in Turkey varied between 24 and 70 in a very broad range. State universities have an average of 36 courses, while foundational universities have an average of 40 courses. There are more compulsory courses in state universities, and more optional courses in the foundation universities. 196 courses included in the curriculum of health institutions’ business programmes have been identified. When studied, the contents and scope of these courses, they have been evaluated in 18 different fields, including "health sciences, law mathematics, economics and finance, sociology, management and strategy, communication, technology, research methods, professional application, art, professional English, body education, psychology, business, marketing, quality, documentation". This situation indicates that graduates of health institutions in business are primarily in administrative courses, taking courses in important fields such as health sciences, economics and law, and that they are able to work in the relevant administrative units of health institutions.
