Abstract:

In this study, summer school teaching programs were evaluated according to the opinions of teachers candidates studying in summer school. Research on the 229 teachers candidates who studied in the 2018-2019 summer school at the Gazi University School of Education has been presented on the basis of general views and gender variation on the summer school teaching programs carried out. In this survey conducted in the screening model, 22 material survey forms developed by Rock and Subject (2015) were used. The study found that teachers’ candidates supported the application of summer school, and that the summer school contributed to the normal period and academic success in terms of class load. Also, the teaching candidates mostly opposed the removal of the summer school, they pointed out that the summer school does not undermine the quality of education, that the notes are given fairly, that there should be no credit restrictions. Also, from the point of view of gender variation, women’s teacher candidates found summer school more stressful than men’s teacher candidates and indicated that it creates more fatigue. It is useful to continue the summer school practice. Similar research should be done taking into account different samples and different independent variables and the data should be compared.
