Purpose: This study is carried out to acquire knowledge about the eating attitudes of university students and to associate these attitudes with personal body perceptions. Individuals and Method: The sample of the study was formed by 500 volunteer girls students who are studying in different universities and departments in Ankara. The average age of students is 21.3±1.90 years (17-29 years). Through randomly randomly selected participants, a question paper and eating attitude test-26 (EAT-26) were applied to determine their general characteristics. The EAT-26 score is equal to 20 or more students are defined as individuals with eating problems. The body mass index (BMI) is calculated by the body weight and length values reported by the participants from the kilogram/m2 (kg/m2). Participants were classified into four groups, weak (<18.5), normal (18.5-24.9), lightweight (25.0-29.9) and obese (≥30.0) according to the BCI values. The personal body perceptions of students are questioned as ‘very weak’, ‘weak’, ‘normal’, ‘sweat’ or ‘very obese’ and these assessments are associated with the BCI values. Results: 8.8% of the five hundred participants’ total EAT-26 score is above 20. The average score is 8.0 (0.0-37.0). Students' EAT-26 scores do not differ significantly according to age, class, part of study or place of residence (p>0. 05), the BMI significantly differs according to the perception of the personal body and its accuracy (p<0.05 for each). 13.6 percent of 44 participants with EAT-26 scores above 20 are weak, 68.2 percent normal, 13.6 percent lightly obese and 4.5 percent obese. According to the participants’ BKI and the detected body image, the difference between the distribution of EAT-26 scores was statistically significant (χ2=243.557, p=0.001). Overall, 71.0% of students assessed their body image correctly. Result: Although the number of university students with an abnormal eating attitude is not significant in this study, the students’ eating attitudes have shown a significant difference according to their BCIs and body images they perceive. Values are <18 . Students with 5 kg/m2 or ≥25 kg/m2 with the personal body image perception not correct should be more detailed in terms of their eating attitudes.
