Abstract:

The Ostpolitical doctrine, which the government of Willy Brandt in the Federal Germany has adopted, is now part of the United Germany’s policy. The Ostpolitik, which is implemented as the Opening Policy to the East, is based on the purpose of communicating and cooperating not only with the Democratic Republic of Germany, but also with the countries of the Eastern Block, such as the Soviet Union and Poland. Today, Germany is again pursuing a similar policy to its economic interests in Eastern Europe and to cooperate with Russia on various matters to bring a new path in the EU’s relations with Russia. The aim of this policy is to establish close diplomatic relations with Eastern European countries, to implement the integration of these countries into the European Union and to develop relations with Russia. The conceptual framework of the study is the "Ostpolitik" used as a means of communication with the countries of the Eastern Block as a member of the Western Block after the Second World War. In light of the current summer, the study has been attempted to create a causal-result relationship between theory and practice using qualitative research methods in a conceptual, theoretical and historical framework. The study found that the Opening Policy to the East will lead to tensions between the two countries because Germany and Russia are becoming competitors in many areas and geographics.
