Abstract:

Wael B. Hallaq, who is of Palestinian origin and has important studies in the fields of Islamic Law, Islamic Thought History, works at the Department of Middle East, South Asia and African Studies (MESAAS) at the University of Columbia (NYC). Hallaq, which has been considered the most effective name in the West for more than a quarter of a century because of his work in the Islamic law field, has received important studies that make it possible to question the information produced by charity researchers about Islam. In the first years of his academic work, the writer, who came to the forefront with his works on Islamic law and the functioning of it, then the critical aspect of the the theses of the Orientalist researchers on Islam, the study contained large assessments and attracted his attention with his works on the topic of Western moral thinking. The work he writes in both Turkey and in many countries of the world, Hallaq has a fair reputation by translating it into different languages, this teveccüh has been reinforced by the TÜBA Academy Council in the framework of the 2020 TÜBA International Academy Awards in the category of Social and Human Sciences. Restating Orientalism: A Critique of Modern Knowledge (Restating Orientalism: A Critique of Modern Knowledge) is a successful example of modernity criticism, Hallaq criticizes the knowledge produced by modernity in the context of orientalism. The study was published by Columbia University Press in 2018 and was translated into English in a short time under the name of Re-Thinking: The Criticism of Modern Knowledge. This important work will be written in many promotions and evaluations; but in this examination, by taking a step towards the identification of the value of the relevant work and the basic claims of the author, the work will be attracted to the importance of the work.
