Abstract:

The world’s population is aging rapidly. Especially in developing countries, it is widely recognized that individuals aged 65 and over are increasing their weight significantly in the total population, both in terms of number and proportion. Physical and cognitive disorders that arise with ageing cause people to lose their productivity and even fail to perform their daily life activities on their own. In a sense, ageing and people are separated from their existing identities and roles in society. A particular feature of this period is the exclusion from society. Through losing their productivity, moving into the consumer position and the need for the care of others, many of the care work is included in the long-term care system, this system contributes to the social contents of the elderly. In this study, referring to the ecological dimension of aging, it focused on the relationship between the capabilities of older individuals and self-realization. It is also intended to reveal that the problem of social isolation can be resolved by the application of long-term care services, by harmonizing the time passing between people leaving their independent life due to ageing and the acceptance of new identities and roles in society with the liminality approach. In this framework, the article discusses the long-term care services, social inclusion, ageing and ageing addiction, homosexuality and self-realization approaches, including how long-term care services contribute to social inclusion.
