The demographic transformation and social change experienced in our country in recent years has brought up the issue of where the elderly will spend the rest of their lives. Aging in place is a care model developed as an alternative to institutional care in developed countries where the elderly population is dense, with its positive effects on the physical and psychological well-being of the elderly and its low cost. In order for this model to be applicable for our country, it is essential to determine the opinions and service expectations of the elderly. However, no study has been found in the literature in which successful aging in place is discussed from the perspective of the elderly. The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of the elderly regarding successful aging and their attitudes towards aging in place. The research was carried out with 20 (10 female, 10 male) elderly adults in Kadıkoy district of Istanbul. Semi-structured interview technique was used and the data were analyzed by content analysis method using MAXQDA application. According to the findings obtained most of the elderly people in the research group have very positive attitudes towards their aging periods. Being married and professional experience contribute positively to the successful aging process. Social relationships, health, independence and an active life were deemed necessary for successful aging. Aging in place, on the other hand, is preferred by the majority of the elderly and is associated with successful aging. For successful aging in place, physical and social environment designed for the elderly and home support services are considered essential.
