Abstract:

Process-genre is one of the writing approaches that has been on the rise recently. Process-genre based approach; ıt is an approach to writing that draws on the strengths of product, process and genre approaches. The aim of this study is to examine whether there is a difference between the activities created according to the process-genre model in different literary genres and the writing activities in the Turkish textbook and to evaluate the use and effectiveness of the process-genre based model in writing teaching. Qualitative research method was preferred in the study. The data of the study were obtained through document analysis. The documents of this study; three written expression activity plans prepared by a Turkish teacher according to the steps of the process-genre based writing approach, twenty-four written texts prepared by eight students in three different text types as petition, fable and informative text and 5 written texts taught in schools in the 2021-2022 academic year. These are seven writing activities selected from the 5th grade Turkish textbook. The data obtained from the study were analyzed according to descriptive analysis. At the end of the study, it was understood that the process and genre knowledge was not given importance in the writing activities in the textbook. In addition, it has been determined that the activities are created according to a product-based understanding. It has been noticed that the texts produced in line with the activity plans prepared according to the process-genre based approach, on the other hand, cover the stages such as planning, drafting, editing and are suitable for the writing process and help to understand the genre specific features.
