Abstract:

In the history of Republic of Turkey, transition to democracy was experienced twice in 1930 and 1946 at a period described as “single-party era”. In both periods, despite the establishment of various political parties, two parties came to the foreground more than others and have had a greater say in the political arena. These two opposition parties are, SCF which was founded in August 1930 and DP that was established in January of 1946. The issue that needs to be mentioned before examination by comparison of conditions and periods is that SCF was being the first opposition party to be established in 1930 democracy experiment whereas DP is the second political party emerged in the transition to democracy in 1945. However, in a short period of time both opposition parties were met with great enthusiasm throughout the country. Both parties that are seen as alternatives to the ruling party CHF by the voter groups, as of the period they are established, they came to the political scene under the influence of internal and external conditions. Although there are some similarities when the two parties were established, important differences are also observed. Primarily, the first similarity that needs to be emphasized is both SCF and DP is basically founded by people from the CHP origin. In this study, internal and external factors that were effective in the emergence of both parties, the attitude of the ruling party in the establishment phase of both parties and the similarities and differences will be revealed by examining the programs of both parties.
