Abstract:

Yusuf Atılgan, one of the authors of the 1950 generation, made a name for himself with his works, especially in the genre of novels. However, like many other writers, he published short stories before the novel. The subjects that the author deals with the individual in depth in his works in both genres are the alienation and existential problems of the individual. His worldview and the conditions of the period he lived in were influential in the author’s concentration on these themes. So much so that the 1950s were painful years fort he individual as a result of both problems brought bu universal events such as World War II and the developments within the country. In this period when many writers focused on individual themes, Yusuf Atılgan published his stories under the title Bodur Minareden Öte in 1960. The stories in this work are interesting in terms of reflecting the spirit of the period. In his stories in the aforementioned book, the author deals with people who are alienated from himself and the society he lives in. In this study, these stories, which deal with the mental state of the individual, will be tried to be discussed in the light of the psychoanalytic method of the French psychoanalyst Jazques Lacan. The main purpose of this study is to try to explain the mental state of the story heroes, together with the psychoanalysis method, which tries to understand and make sense of the events taking place in the human psyche.
