Abstract:

Chemical laboratories, which have a very important place for chemistry education, are important in the process of determining how they are revived in the minds of students and how they are related to other concepts, and in the process of designing the teachings of scientists and chemistry educators. In this context, in this study conducted in order to identify the metaphoric perceptions of the chemical laboratory of teachers candidates studying at the educational faculty, the scientific design of the facts from the quality research methods has been used. The participants of the study are formed by a total of 144 scientists and class teachers candidates who are studying at the Sakarya University School of Education. The study was developed by researchers as a data collection tool and is similar to the "Chemical Laboratory". Because ....” a form of expression has been used. For this form prepared, the form was applied online to the participants after the authorization of E-61923333-050,99-105411 from the University of Sakarya Education Research and Publishing Ethics Council. After the separation process conducted in various stages and the accuracy of the data was investigated, the study was conducted with a total of 132 data with the extract of 12 problematically identified data from the research scope. In the analysis of data, the content analysis method was applied. The analysis resulted in a total of 56 metaphors developed by the participating teachers candidates and found that these metaphors were gathered under 11 categories. 46 of these metaphors are a frequency, while the number of participants producing the remaining metaphors ranges from 2 to 49. The top five metaphors are Kitchen (49 participants, 37.1 percent), Life (10 participants, 7.6 percent), Nature (5 participants, 3.8 percent), Cooking (4 participants, 3 percent) and Earth (3 participants, 2.3 percent). On the other hand, the metaphors were also studied based on various demographic data.
