Modernleşme, Batı toplumları tarafından 16. Yüzyıldan itibaren sanat, felsefe, bilim ve siyaset yordamıyla oluşturulmaya başlayan devlet, toplumsal yapı ve yaşam içerikli yeni kültürel kodlar veya geçmişten veya gelenekten bir kopuş olarak söylenebilir. Modern kelimesi etimolojik olarak değerlendirildiğinde günümüzde var olmak şeklinde ifade edilebilir. Osmanlı modernleşmesi olarak ifade edilen süreç, devlet eliyle 18. yüzyıldan itibaren başlatılan yenileşme hareketlerini de kapsayan üç yüzyıllık bir geçmişi kapsamaktadır. Avrupa ile Asya arasında halkının neredeyse tamamına yakını Müslüman olan bir toplumun bu süreçleri batı dışı toplumların modernleşme süreçleriyle bire bir örtüşmektedir. Tanzimat Döneminde başlayan modernleşme sürecini yürüten bürokratik elitler, salt bilim ve teknoloji alınarak 5-10 yıl içerisinde Avrupa medeniyetine yetişebileceğimiz ve eski gücümüzü tekrar elde edebileceğimizi düşünmektedirler. Osmanlı’da modernleşme, sadece bürokratların istemiş olduğu bir serüven olmaktan ziyade dış güçlerin baskılarına ve yönlendirmelerine son vermek şeklinde bir sonuç istenmiştir. Tanzimat ile başlayan Osmanlı Modernleşmesi sürecinde basının din ve gelenek üzerine etkisi söz konusu olmuştur. Türk modernleşmesi noktasında yaklaşık 300 yıllık süreç incelendiği vakit toplumsal manada değişimin yaşandığı durakların var olduğu ve Osmanlı aydınlarının kaleme almış oldukları gazete ve dergi gibi basım faaliyetlerinin bu modernleşmenin oluşması açısından bir vasıta olduğu görülmüştür. Medyada çıkan yazılar modernizm ile ilgili tartışmaları canlı tutarak toplumun sosyal dinamiklerinin değişmesine yol açmıştır. Günümüzde bile söz konusu bu tartışmaların belli bir kısmı hala etkisini devam ettirmektedir.
Modernization, by Western societies 16. The state, social structure and new cultural codes containing life, which began to be created by the art, philosophy, science and politics from the century, can be said as a breakdown from the past or tradition. The modern word can be expressed in the form of being existing today when it is etymologically assessed. The process expressed as the Ottoman modernization covers a three-century history that covers the renewal movements initiated by the government since the 18th century. These processes of a society between Europe and Asia, which is almost all of its people Muslim, are combined with the modernization processes of foreign societies. The bureaucratic elites, who are running the process of modernization that began in the Tanzanic era, believe that we can reach the European civilization in 5-10 years by taking the purely science and technology and regaining our old power. In the Ottoman, modernization was a result in the form of ending the pressure and guidance of external powers rather than being a bureaus that the bureaucrates wanted. In the process of the Ottoman Modernization, which began with Tanzimat, the influence of the press on religion and tradition has been discussed. At the point of modernization of Turkey, the process of approximately 300 years has been studied when there are stations where the change in the social sense has occurred and the Ottoman lights have been printed in newspapers and magazines, such as a medium in terms of the formation of this modernization. Posts in the media have led to a change in the social dynamics of society by keeping the discussions about modernism alive. Even today, some of the discussions on this issue continue to influence it.
