Introduction and objective: The eating habits of tennis players have a direct influence on the adaptation of training, performance, recovery and maintenance of health. The study aimed to evaluate the eating habits of tennis players in a city in southern Brazil. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional and descriptive study, with 73 tennis players from a social club in Pelotas-RS. Weight, height and waist circumference were measured and a questionnaire was applied to assess the socioeconomic profile and food consumption. Statistical analyzes were performed on Stata 14.0®, with a significance level of 5% (p<0.05). Discussion: Studies with tennis players show a caloric deficit and inadequate consumption of macronutrients, as well as vitamins and minerals. Results: Most tennis players had an insufficient food intake in terms of calories, excessive consumption of carbohydrates, fats and sodium and deficient consumption of fiber, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese and vitamins A, D, E, C and B vitamins. Conclusion: The sample showed inadequate eating habits, with low energy intake, inadequate carbohydrates, proteins and fats and deficiency in micronutrient intake. Nutritional education actions are necessary, aiming to improve eating habits and life.
