The study aimed to verify the habits and the prevalence of binge eating episodes in students of a University of Southern Brazil. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study with students of courses of Letters/Portuguese and Nutrition, in the period from September to October 2019. Socioeconomic questionnaire was applied, food frequency and the scale of binge eating at regular intervals. The height was referred to and was measured body weight, for determination of nutritional status. Statistical analyzes were performed on the Stata 14.0, with a statistical significance of 5% (p<0,005).Results: The food habits were inadequate in relation to the consumption of milk, beans, fruits and vegetables and legumes. The prevalence of binge eating in university students was 9.56% of the total sample, being 14.71% in students in the course of Letters/Portuguese and 7.41% in the university students in the course of nutrition. Discussion: The findings of this study differ from those found by other authors, since there was a low prevalence of binge eating in the sample. The inadequacy of food observed is worrying due to impairment of the intake of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Conclusion:Since college students have inadequate eating habits, it is important to encourage healthy habits among university students seeking to minimize the occurrence of eating disorders, as well as monitor the development of these disorders in order to mitigate their effects.
