Abstract:

Individuals with special needs below or above the normal level of intelligence need special training services to reveal their potential. It is of great importance for individuals with special needs who have limited time of attention and have disciplinary problems at certain times to benefit their personal development from their interest in art branches such as painting, drama and music. In this context, music courses are one of the most convenient courses in which individuals with special needs interact with normal students, who can express themselves individually and collectively. It is necessary that music teachers working with specialized students know the characteristics of personal development of the individuals concerned, to plan classes according to the student’s needs and to be able to conduct classes according to them. Therefore, the scope and content of the courses that music teacher candidates take towards the education of special needs individuals is of great importance. In this study, the aim is to identify the qualifications for the education of the candidates for music teachers of special needs students. In this regard, the opinions of the students of the main discipline of music education were taken. The study found that the lesson hours and the variety of lessons that music teachers candidates receive at the bachelor’s level on the education of special needs individuals are not sufficient, that the knowledge they obtain in the course contents contributes to the professional achievements, and that the music training practices to be carried out for special needs individuals at the bachelor’s level will contribute to the professional qualifications.
