Türk edebiyatında başta hikâye türünde olmak üzere şiir, roman, tiyatro gibi edebî türlerin yanı sıra kültür, sanat, spor gibi konularda çok sayıda makale yazan Ömer Seyfettin bu yönleri ile verimli bir isim olmasının yanında zihni sürekli Türk milleti ve bu millete ait unsurların ilerletilmesi ve geliştirilmesi için çalışan biri olarak Türk edebiyatına damgasını vurmuştur. Balıkesir’in Gönen ilçesinde başlayan yaşam mücadelesini, asker olarak girdiği ve bir süre mensubu olduğu orduda bir süre sürdürdükten sonra istifa ederek, mücadelesini silah yerine kalemle devam ettirir. Bu sırada da yazarlığın yanı sıra öğretmenlik de etmeye başlar. On beş yaşında başladığı yazı hayatını ömrünün sonuna dek sürdürür ama en verimli döneminin son dört beş yılı olduğu hikâye ve yazılarının tarihleri göz önüne alındığında tespit edilebilir. Selanik’te çıkan Genç Kalemler dergisinde savundukları “Yeni Lisan” hareketinin önderlerinden biri olan Ömer Seyfettin, bu hareketle, adını edebiyat dünyasına handiyse kazımıştır. Bu denli değerli bir yazarın otuz altı gibi genç bir yaşta dünyadan göçmesi de dostları ve Türk basını tarafından üzüntüyle karşılanmış, süreli yayınlarda ölümü dolayısıyla anma yazıları yazılmıştır. İmzalı ya da imzasız yazılan bu yazıların büyük çoğunluğu hatıra türündendir. Bu çalışmada Ömer Seyfettin’in ölümünün hemen ardından gazete ve dergilerde yayımlanan yazılar ve ölüm ilanları merkeze alınarak, ölümü üzerine sıcağı sıcağına yazılan yazılardan Ömer Seyfettin portresi ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılacaktır.

In addition to writing, he also started teaching. The writing that he began at the age of fifteen continues his life until the end of his life; but it can be identified by taking into account the history and the dates of his writing that the most productive period was the last four-five years. Omer Seyfettin, one of the leaders of the "New Lisan" movement they defended in the Journal of Young Pencils in Thessaloniki, with this movement, has swallowed his name to the literary world. The fact that such a valuable writer has migrated from the world at a young age of thirty-six is also rewarded by his friends and the Turkish press, in periodic publications recorded his death. The majority of these signature or signature-free writings are of a type of memory. In this study, immediately after the death of Omer Seyfettin, the writings and death announcements published in the newspapers and magazines will be taken to the center, and the portrait of Omer Seyfettin will be attempted to be revealed from the writings written to the heat on his death.
