Doğumu takip eden kırkıncı günden, buluğ çağına kadar olan döneme, “çocukluk çağı” denir. Doğumdan sonra çocuğun gelişimini izleyen, onun anneyle babayla, ailenin öteki üyeleriyle ve toplumsal çevresiyle ilişkilerini düzenleyen bir dizi kural, adet, tören, işlem ve pratik vardır. Bu dönemde çocuğun korunması, büyütülmesi, bağlı bulunduğu toplumun değer yargılarına uyumlu bir birey haline gelmesi için yazılı olmayan birçok kurala uyması ve bunları öğrenmesi gerekir. Çocukluk çağında gerçekleştirilen işlem ve pratikler, töre ve törenler, önem ve sıralarına göre kimi zaman katı, kimi zaman da esnek bir biçimde uygulanırlar. Günümüzde çocuk gelişimiyle ilgili uzmanlar, çocukların doğumundan itibaren ergenliğin sonuna kadar olan dönemlerini belirli yaş kümelerinde ele alıyor ve bu dönemleri çocuğun bedensel gelişimi, bilişsel gelişimi, motor gelişimi, dil gelişimi, duygusal gelişimi ve sosyal gelişimi açısından farklı kategorilerde inceliyorlar. Bu çalışmanın konusunu, Adana’da günümüzde halen yaşamakta olan çocukluk çağı uygulamalarının tespit edilerek yazıya geçirilmesi oluşturmaktadır. Gözlem ve görüşme yoluyla sahadan derlenen bilgiler, eğitim bilimlerinin bakış açısı ve yaklaşımı dikkate alınarak çocukluk çağının yukarıda sıralan evrelerine göre tasnif edilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin işlenmesi sırasında halkbiliminin ilgili başlıkları, çocuğun bedensel gelişimi, bilişsel gelişimi, motor gelişimi, dil gelişimi, duygusal gelişimi ve sosyal gelişimi sırası göz önüne alınarak işlenmiş ve yazıya aktarılmıştır. Kullanılan bu yöntemle, Türk halkbiliminin genellikle doğum uygulamaları arasında yer verilen ve ayrıntıları gözden kaçan bu dönemini, münferit bir başlık altında değerlendirme denemesiyle birlikte verilere bilimsel bir tasnif uygulanmaya çalışılmıştır.
The period from the 40th day after birth to the age of birth is called "the age of childhood". There are a series of rules, rituals, ceremonies, processes and practices that monitor the development of the child after birth, regulating his relationship with the mother and father, with other family members and with the social environment. In this period, the child needs to be protected, grown up, and learn many unwritten rules to become a person in accordance with the values of the society to which he is connected. The processes and practices carried out in childhood, trials and ceremonies are sometimes applied in a rigorous, sometimes flexible manner according to their importance and order. Today, children’s development specialists deal with the periods of children from birth to the end of adolescence in certain age groups, and they study these periods in different categories in terms of child’s physical development, cognitive development, motor development, language development, emotional development and social development. The subject of this study is the recording of the practices of childhood that are still living in Adana today. The information collected from the field through observation and discussion, taking into account the perspective and approach of educational sciences, is classified according to the above-listed stages of childhood. During the processing of the obtained data, the relevant topics of public science have been processed and translated into writing, taking into account the order of child's physical development, cognitive development, motor development, language development, emotional development and social development. With this method used, the Turkish folk science is often among the birth practices and the period that has avoided the details, with the attempt to evaluate under a single title, a scientific classification has been tried to apply to the data.
