Abstract:

They behave in accordance with the social roles of women and men. In this context, women are faced with the pressures that the social gender perceptions reveal their domestic femininity, maternity, and spouse roles in the first place, pushing "working woman's role" in the second place. As a result of this situation, women working experience serious conflicts between their responsibilities for social gender roles, and their responsibilities for working life. This conflict, which in literature is called the "work-family life conflict", on the one hand affects the family relations of the woman, and on the other hand causes great obstacles to work life. In order to alleviate the difficulties they experience with the "motherhood" cause of the working women and to help them balance the working family life, the Law No. 6663 dated 29.01.2016 and the Turkish working life have made significant changes. Under this law, the Law No. 4857 of Labor and the Law No. 4447 of Unemployment Insurance have been regulated and innovations have been introduced regarding the periods of leave after birth and/or childbirth of employees and the right to part-time work. Thus, the legislation is intended to help ensure gender equality while protecting pregnancy and postpartum women, and to reduce working family conflicts.
