Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye demir çelik sektörünün rekabet gücünü 2000-2019 dönemi için üç haneli 9 alt sektör bazında incelemek ve sektörün ürün haritalamasını ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Açıklanmış Mukayeseli Üstünlükler Endeksi (RCA), Açıklanmış Simetrik Mukayeseli Üstünlükler Endeksi (RSCA) ve Ticaret Dengesi Endeksinden (TBI) yararlanılmış ve Widodo tarafından geliştirilen Ürün Haritalaması Yöntemine başvurulmuştur. Yapılan değerlendirme sonucunda 9 alt sektörden üç tanesinin (SITC 676, SITC 678 ve SITC 679) karşılaştırmalı üstünlüğe sahip net ihracatçı sektörler, 2 tanesinin (SITC 671 ve SITC 675) karşılaştırmalı dezavantaja sahip net ithalatçı sektörler, 2 tanesinin (SITC672 ve SITC 673) son yıllarda karşılaştırmalı üstünlüğe sahip olmasına karşın net ithalatçı olduğu gözlenmiştir. 2000 yılında karşılaştırmalı dezavantaja sahip net ithalatçı sektör durumunda olan SITC 674 alt sektörü ise 2018 ve 2019 yıllarında karşılaştırmalı üstünlüğe sahip net ihracatçı sektör yapısıyla dikkat çekmektedir. SITC 677 alt sektörü ise net ihracatçı olmasına karşın karşılaştırmalı dezavantaja sahiptir.
The aim of this study is to examine the competitiveness of the Turkish steel sector for the period 2000-2019 on the basis of the three-number 9 sub-sector and to show the product map of the sector. For this purpose, the Product Maping Method has been used and developed by Widodo, the Description Comparative Excellence Index (RCA), the Description Simetric Excellence Index (RSCA) and the Trade Balance Index (TBI). Three of the nine sub-sectors (SITC 676, SITC 678 and SITC 679) were net exporting sectors with comparative superiority, two of them (SITC 671 and SITC 675) net importing sectors with comparative disadvantages, and two (SITC 672 and SITC 673) were net importing sectors despite comparative superiority in recent years. The SITC 674 sub-sector, which was in the net importing sector with a comparative disadvantage in 2000, is highlighted by the net exporting sector structure with a comparative superiority in 2018 and 2019. The SITC 677 sub-sector has a comparative disadvantage despite its net exports.
