Abstract:

The aim of this research is to examine the effects of 6th grade students' social interaction levels and attitudes towards mathematics course on concept learning through activities. Correlational method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. In the research, 6th grade students studying in a public school in the 2022-2023 academic year were studied and the research sample consisted of 33 students. "Sociometry", "Attitude Scale Towards Mathematics Course" and "Factors and Multiples Achievement Test" were used to collect the research data. In order to teach the concepts of factors and multiples, four activities were designed by the researcher using the ACODESA method. This method is based on the basic principles of collaborative learning, scientific discussion, and self-reflection in the construction of mathematical concepts. In this context, teaching was carried out with the students for four weeks. At the end of the application, the students were given an achievement test. The data were analyzed by correlation and multiple regression analysis. Students' sociometry scores and attitudes towards mathematics course do not predict concept learning with activities. The effect of the level of social interaction and the attitude towards the mathematics courses on the success of the activities designed with the ACODESA method is not statistically significant. It shows that the ACODESA method can be used in concept teaching regardless of students' social interaction level and attitudes towards the course.
