Abstract:

This study was conducted to examine the relationship between social media addiction, academic self-efficacy and loneliness in university students and the influencing factors. This descriptive study was conducted between April 2022 and June 2022, and the sample of the study consisted of 932 students studying at the Vocational School of Health Services in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data of the study were collected online with the “ Student Descriptive Information Form “, “Social Media Addiction Scale for Adolescents”, “Academic Self- Efficacy Scale” and “UCLA Loneliness Scale” and a survey form created with Google Form. The mean age of the students participating in the study is 20.62+2.04, 57.5% of them are girls, and 97.9% use social media. When the scores of the students from the scales were examined; It was determined that they had a moderate level of social media addiction with a mean of 20.31±3.87 points, a moderate level of academic self-efficacy with a mean of 15.06±4.08 points, and a higher level of loneliness with a mean of 49.46±8.71 points. Social media addiction was found to have a weak negative relationship with academic self-efficacy of students (r = -0.453; p 0.000) and a moderately positive relationship with loneliness levels (r = 0.531; p 0.000).
