Adaptation of diabetic patients to the disease includes individuals’ diet, exercise and drug adherence. Besides it is possible to improve this adaptation individually, healthcare personnel especially nurses, have an important role in this process. With health promotion model developed by Pender, nurses aims to do behavioral changes to create a healthy lifestyle for individuals by exploring their past experiences, behavior-specific benefit and barrier perceptions. The purpose of this article, is to develop a guide for the use of Pender’s Health Promotion Model in developing healthy life behaviors that have a positive effect on diabetic patients’ adaptation to the disease. In the review, the diabetes disease and the factors that affect adaption to the disease were examined; these factors were discussed via Health Promotion Model.
